I'm Doing It My Way...

Sometimes, it's others comparing me to someone else that gets in the way of moving forward. People comparing my self-publishing/business journey to someone more visible, who may be

traditionally published; an indie author who is more popular...they think since I don't:

  • look like the other author

  • have as many titles on the market

  • have as large a following

  • aren't being talked about...

Then I must not be worth the risk of purchasing one of my books, attending one of my (free and low-cost) workshops, or my now online course/coaching group. In their eyes, I'm not worth working or collaborating with; not worth interviewing or sharing with their networks.

And because nothing I do or say, short of becoming just like the person they're comparing me to, will change their minds, I don't earn those dollars or get those opportunities.

It's not that I'm not confident or good at what I do; it's not that I don't "show up and show out" enough or that I don't know what I'm doing when it comes time to hustle and pitch my business.

It is instead, I'm overlooked because as soon as my potential client/customer compares me to that more popular, more visible person...I'm screwed.

Oh well. Let me go on and tell you about my business anyway.
