Marketing 101 - Mid Budget

I'm defining "mid-budget" as between $300 - $500. This could be a one-time spend or what you can afford to do monthly. However it works out when you find yourself with a good amount of dollars to put toward marketing, here are some suggestions on what to spend them on.

Mid-Budget: $300 - $500

  • Booth or Table at conferences, festivals - the amount here can include travel, copies of your book for sale, advertising space in the conference promotional materials, items to decorate your table, giveaway items, etc.

  • DIY a Website - my website costs me $353 a year and I have a couple of add-ons I use that run $30 a month that allow me to do some simple, email marketing that I might otherwise have to pay for.

  • Professional Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software - CRMs and email marketing programs like Hubspot, Mailchimp, Constant Contact, and the like do have free versions but to get the full use out of them, having the paid versions makes sense. These programs can get pretty pricey for the "professional" or "business" packages but typically max out below $500 for what you as a self-published author may need.

  • Set-up for a YouTube and or Podcast channel - this would be for entry-level, yet good-quality camera and or recording gear, editing software, and licensing for any images or music you want to use to establish a marketing platform online.

  • Get artist-designed book covers - purchase professionally designed book cover art.

As always, there's room for more ideas so leave any in the comments below.

Thank you so much for checking in on the blog this week. C'mon back next week as we blow that budget wide open and chat about what marketing goodies you can throw in the car on the high end of things.

Sending light & inspiration,

Dana
